  5. The EDITOR  BEHAVIOUR of  the Editress  can be  set  to
  6. match a great variety of existing programs.
  7.

  16. Select AUTO WRAP when you are editing plain text.  AUTO
  17. WRAP can be  quickly switched on  and off by  selecting
  18. F5.    When   this   option   is   active, words    are
  19. automatically moved to the  next line when they  exceed
  20. the right margin.
  21.  
  22. Select USE EDIT BELL if you wish to hear the bell sound
  23. when an action is performed that does not always have a
  24. visible effect (such as Copy, or Push Position).
  25.  
  26. Select AUTO INDENT when you are writing program source.
  27. Edith will  then  automatically  insert  space  at  the
  28. beginning of a line according to the indentation of the
  29. previous line.

  31. Select FORMAT  ALIGNS  if  you  want  the  text  format
  32. operation (TEXT menu, ⇧^F or F4) to align paragraphs to
  33. the right margin by adding extra blanks between words.
  34.  
  35. Select SHOW MATCHING  BRACKETS if you  are used to  the
  36. UNIX editor  VI.  When  this switch  is on, the  cursor
  37. will quickly blink at the corresponding opening bracket
  38. when you type ), ] or }.
  39.  
  40. Select DISPLAY TRUE TABS AS CLOCKS when you're used  to
  41. the TEMPUS editor.
  42.  
  43. Select EDITOR tabs when you want the TAB key to  insert
  44. spaces into the text.  Select  TRUE tabs when you  want
  45. tab characters (ASCII  9) instead.  NOTE  that the  tab
  46. stops for true tabs and editor tabs are set separately;
  47. edit tabs can  be set  by clicking on  the TEXT  RULER,
  48. while the true tab distance is set in the RULER DIALOG.

  50. Select MOVE OLD  BUFFERS TO TRASH  FILE, when you  want
  51. optimum editing safety.  Old vital data that  threatens
  52. to get  lost will  then automatically  be save  in  the
  53. TRASH CAN FILE.  Whenever you wish to recover old data,
  54. you can copy it back  from the TRASH CAN, which can  be
  55. opened from the CLIPBOARD DIALOG, or by selecting  OPEN
  56. TRASH CAN from the OPTIONS menu (^T).

  58. Select USE GEM  CLIPBOARD if  you wish to  use the  GEM
  59. clipboard instead of an internal cut/paste buffer.

  61. RESEARCH has shown that German shareware programs  have
  62. text cursors  which  blink  faster  than  their  Dutch,
  63. British  and  Americain  equivalents.    Therefore, the
  64. Edith user can set the cursor blink rate to any  amount
  65. of milliseconds  he or  she likes, or  have the  cursor
  66. steady by typing 0 milliseconds.
